Will it work on our computers?
What you need to run Parkstack at the office, the box office and the entrance, and what to do with an older computer.
Last checked 31 October 2026
Before you start: everything in Parkstack runs in a web browser. There is nothing to install on a computer, and the Scanner works in a phone's browser.
Browsers
Parkstack is built for these browsers or newer:
- Google Chrome 111 or Microsoft Edge 111 (both from March 2023)
- Firefox 111
- Safari 16.4 on a Mac, iPhone or iPad
Any computer that keeps its browser up to date has one of these already. To check, open your browser's About page (in Chrome: the menu, then Help, then About Google Chrome).
Older computers, including Windows 7
Many box offices run on an older Windows computer, and that can be fine for a while:
- Windows 10 and 11: use Chrome, Edge or Firefox, kept up to date.
- Windows 7, 8 and 8.1: Chrome and Edge stopped at version 109 on these, which is older than Parkstack is built for, so pages may not work properly. Use Firefox instead: its version 115 still runs on Windows 7 and is new enough. Mozilla has been extending its security updates a few months at a time, so check Mozilla's support pages for how long.
- Very old computers: Windows XP and Vista are not supported. No current browser runs on them.
An old Windows computer no longer gets security fixes from Microsoft, so plan to replace it. A basic Windows 11 laptop, a Chromebook or an iPad runs everything Parkstack does at the box office.
The box office
- Screen: any laptop, desktop or tablet. On screens about 1,024 pixels wide and wider, the order sits beside the tickets; on smaller screens, the total and payment buttons stay at the bottom.
- Touch screen: not needed, but the till's buttons are large enough for one.
- Camera: not needed. Annual pass photos are added by guests on their pass page or taken on the Scanner phone. If the till's device has a camera, the order page can use it to add a photo.
- Internet: needed for every sale. The till does not work offline, so if your connection drops, keep a phone with mobile data ready as a backup.
- Card payments: a card machine you already have works: take the payment on it and choose Card machine at the till. To take cards through Parkstack and Stripe instead, add a Stripe smart reader (S700, S710 or WisePOS E) in Park settings → Card readers. The reader needs its own Wi-Fi or wired internet.
Printers
Parkstack prints through your browser's normal Print button, so any printer your computer can print to will work:
- Receipts and takings: print on an ordinary A4 printer. A small receipt printer also works if your computer shows it as a printer, but we have not tested particular models, so print a test receipt first.
- Printed gift cards: ten credit-card-size cards on an A4 sheet. Use thick card and a printer that takes it, or send the codes file to a print shop.
- Posters: A4 or A3.
The Scanner at the entrance
- Phone: an iPhone on iOS 16.4 or later (iPhone 8 and newer), or an Android phone with an up-to-date Chrome (Android 10 or later). A tablet works too.
- Camera: the rear camera reads ticket QR codes. If a phone cannot use its camera, staff can type the order number, ticket number or gate code instead.
- Install it like an app: open the Scanner, then choose Add to Home Screen from the browser's Share menu (iPhone) or menu (Android). The Scanner page has the steps under Use the Scanner like an app on a phone.
- No signal: the Scanner keeps today's tickets on the phone while it has signal, and keeps scanning when the signal drops. Open it with signal at the start of each day so the list is fresh. Activating gift cards and taking pass photos need signal.
- Sound and vibration: turn the phone's volume up to hear each verdict. Vibration works on Android; iPhones do not vibrate for web pages.
Internet
Parkstack needs a working internet connection for everything except the Scanner, which keeps working with no signal. Ordinary broadband is enough; there are no large downloads. Where your Wi-Fi does not reach the entrance, the Scanner phones can use mobile data.
Guests
Guests use your website and buy tickets on their own phones and computers. Any phone or computer from the last few years works. Card payments happen on Stripe's secure page.
